Cut Paper is a favorite for me and teaching 1st grade new paper techniques is really rewarding with this project. I start with the Eric Carle book, Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? and the students provide the sound effects for each of the animals. We talk about what masks can be used for and sketch out some of our favorite animals. Over the course of 3 class periods, we build these beauties and turn our class into a zoo.
